Client: Technip Offshore Nigeria Ltd., Lagos, Nigeria
From: Samsung Construction yard, Koje, South Korea
To: Offshore Nigeria, via Cape of Good Hope
The Black Marlin loaded the 18,000 metric tons East Area fully integrated GN production deck at the Samung Construction yard by skidding the unit over the starboard side of the vessel. After a voyage of 39 days the Black Marlin successfully installed the GN-deck onto a pre-installed jacket in the East Area field offshore Nigeria.
The Black Marlin had to be converted substantially. With almost 3,000 tons of skid beams and grillage on deck it was transformed into the ideal platform for the float-over and installation of the GN-deck.
The hydraulic system required for this installation was arranged by Technip and installed on the vessel during preparation in Korea.
Two days after arrival offshore Nigeria the Black Marlin left the float-over slot after a successful installation on 8 November 2005.
The transportation part included a skid-on loading operation and subsequently transportation - via Cape of Good Hope - to offshore Nigeria. The installation part comprised a float-over and mating operation using a combination of the carrier's ballast system and the so-called 'UniDeck Jacking System'.
